A New Triangular Finite Element with Optimum Constraint Ratio for Compressible Equations

چکیده

Most (if not all) popular nite-element velocity/pressure pairs perform poorly in determining a vector component from the derivative of a scalar eld. As a result these pairs give noisy solutions for problems such as wave propagation with realistic viscosities. Noisy solutions occur when the vector component is undersconstrainted with respect to the scalar eld, namely when there are more momentum than continuity discretized equations, contary to the continuum case. In this paper a new triangular nite-element pair is proposed which overcomes this imbalance problem. It is shown to improve on results obtained with existing pairs in representing the propagation of fast gravity and slow Rossby waves by discretizing the shallow-water equations.
